Is Work-from-Home a Blessing? Pros, Cons and Making it Fairer to Women ft. Neha J Hiranandani
I have been working from home since 2014 and have realised that it’s both a boon and a bane. As a freelancer, I can decide my own schedule which gives me flexibility but this same ease becomes a problem too. I am sure most freelancers, especially women would agree with me. Even the people around us don’t take work from home as seriously especially if you are not working for a multinational. In homes where both husband and wife work from home, the wife is expected to take up more household responsibilities which is necessarily unpaid work. This episode is not a box of complaints but rather a discussion about work from home and how to make it fairer to women. My guest is Neha J Hiranandani.
Neha has spent the last two decades working on development issues, with a focus on gender equity in various organisations including the United Nations. Neha’s columns on social and economic issues have appeared in several prominent publications like Indian Express, Huffington Post, NDTV and Vogue. Her first book, Girl Power! Indian Women Who Broke the Rules, was a national bestseller and her latest book is The Padmas which has garnered a lot of attention and love as it features 50 men and women who have been awarded The Padma awards for their invaluable contribution.
Let’s talk about the pros and cons of working from home, self-care, guilt and so much more. Please help me bring more such conversations to you by sharing this episode with your friends- just copy the link and send over whatsapp, email or a simple text message.
