Can Therapy-Speak Help the Cause of Mental Health? A Discussion on Pop-Culture ft. Tanmoy Goswami from Sanity
Trigger warning- The episode contains references to suicide and self-harm, please use your discretion before listening.
This episode is more of a free flowing conversation around mental health in pop-culture. I am speaking with Tanmoy Goswami who is a user-survivor and the creator of Sanity, an independent mental health storytelling platform with a reader community spanning over 50 countries. He is a past fellow of the Reuters Institute, University of Oxford, and a LinkedIn Top Voice in Social Impact. He serves on lived experience panels and committees across the world, and is a jury member for the Project SIREN Awards that recognises journalistic excellence on the topic of suicide prevention.
It’s a nuanced discussion for inquisitive minds and for people looking to bring about even a tiny change when it comes to mental health. We’ll talk about the pros and cons of therapy-speak becoming a part of everyday language as in everyone throwing around terms like trauma, depression, OCD etc. I and Tanmoy also discuss trauma dumping, the importance of acknowledging lived experiences and other related topics that affect all of us.
Please bear in mind that neither me nor Tanmoy is a mental-health professional and we are simply sharing our experiences and learnings in an attempt to help.
